Purchasing Assistance for Construction

Purchasing assistance is consulting on how materials and subcontracted work get bought for a job. The failure mode is familiar: an estimate assumed one product, the field bought another because it was available that week, and nobody reconciled the two until closeout. We help write a clean request, line up genuinely comparable proposals, and keep a record of what was awarded, so the field is not building a different job than the one that was estimated.

A clean request is more than a quantity. It names the specification, the delivery window, who is responsible for freight and storage, what happens on a substitution, and what the submittal expectation is. Half of the disputes we see in buyout come from requests that left one of those five things unsaid.

On comparison, we normalize the proposals so you are looking at one scope with different prices instead of five documents with different assumptions. Exclusions matter more than the bottom line. On long-lead items, we work backward from the date the material is actually needed in the field, which is usually earlier than the date on the schedule.

This is not a purchasing cooperative, and we do not take a vendor commission. It is owner- or contractor-side support. Purchasing assistance follows naturally from takeoff support and contract negotiations, and it is often the practical half of an efficiency evaluation.
